Diaster management by Asomiyas

GUWAHATI, Dec 7: The members of the Assamese Diaspora assembled at the Assam Bhawan Mumbai yesterday to form a disaster management team in order to be in a state of preparedness to meet any emergency at a given point of time. The meeting was initiated by Deputy Resident Commissioner of Assam Bhawan Mumbai Devasish Sharma.
Speaking on the occassion, noted film maker Padmashree Jahnu Baruah said that it could be a terrorist attack today, an earthquake tomorrow, a deluge the next day or may be a desperate need for some blood for a loved one some other day. He said, “ The Assamese Diaspora should be well prepared to face any emergency by being able to provide the much needed back up support not just its members but also to the city of Mumbai which is our home today.”A core team of 25 members was formed representing various areas of the city of Mumbai. The members took a pledge to organize themselves to be fully equipped to handle any disaster like situation by keeping a close liason with the disaster management cell of the Government of Maharashtra. The basic aim of this team would be to have an orzanized group of people to swing into action in the need of the hour. This disaster management cell would be monitored by the officers of Assam Bhawan Mumbai with a 24X7 control room having a telephone (022- 2781088). This was stated in a press release.
