Six new outbreaks of avian influenza, highly pathogenic H5N1 were reported in mid-August by the Vietnamese health authorities to OIE, the International Organization for Animal Health. Of the 11 000 birds kept in two farms north of the country and in four villages in southern Vietnam, nearly 7,000 have died, all others were destroyed. The national laboratory confirmed infection with a virus HPAI subtype H5N1. These homes allegedly connected to illegal transport of birds and / or fomites.
