A deadly respiratory virus has killed 40 people in the Middle
East recently, prompting the World Health Organization to issue a global
warning that the disease could cause a pandemic.
An emergency
meeting of health experts has been called for next week to discuss MERS
and how health officials could best deal with the fatal illness if the
numbers were to suddenly grow, according to Reuters.
Health
workers around the world have been advised to be on the lookout for
symptoms of the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome coronavirus known as
MERS. The majority of those affected so far live in or have recently
traveled to the Middle East, according to WHO.
Is MERS the same as SARS?
