The National Assembly will likely soon pass a bill enhancing quarantine measures on farm owners or veterinarians who visited nations that reported infectious animal diseases, such as foot and mouth disease.
The revision bill, pending at the parliamentary committee on food, agriculture, forestry and fisheries, requires that farm owners or veterinarians report to the authorities and follow quarantine measures when they return from countries that reported cases of infectious livestock diseases, such as China, Southeast Asian nations and Africa.
Those who violate the regulations will face a penalty in terms of state compensation or a shutdown of their farms, as well as a maximum of one year in prison or five million won in fines.
The revision also stipulates that companies that hire foreigners report to the head of relevant provincial government and take proper quarantine measures.
