| Govt. to Vaccinate as FMD Spreads Rapidly among Pigs |
| Foot-and-mouth disease is continuing to spread fast among pigs. The Ministry for Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries confirmed cases of FMD Wednesday at pig farms in Chungcheong, Gangwon and Gyeonggi Provinces. The government is planning to vaccinate pigs in the affected areas starting Thursday, but the process might not proceed quickly, since there are roughly 10-million pigs in the country while farm owners are opposing the vaccinations. Cheongwadae will hold an emergency meeting on Thursday to discuss measures to prevent the further spread of the disease. JAN 06, 2011 |
