The Army says it is actively supporting the government's quarantine efforts to curb the spread of foot-and-mouth disease and avian influenza.
The Army said Friday that it is assisting the government with various quarantine activities, including the culling of infected livestock, the operating of emergency quarantine posts, the cleaning of sheds, and the administering of vaccinations at 147 locations in 48 cities and counties.
The Army said it has also set up disaster control headquarters and has mobilized over 100-thousand troops and one-thousand pieces of related equipment so far.
On Friday alone, about five-thousand troops and 62 pieces of equipment were mobilized for quarantine operations.
The Army’s headquarters says it is providing comprehensive support for provincial governments and is seeking ways to further assist their quarantine efforts.
