Ten veterinarians enlisted by the government to help bring the nationwide outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) under control have reported signs of exhaustion amid protracted quarantine operations.
The help of about 140 Gyeonggi Province veterinarians has been enlisted by the government to administer vaccinations amid the FMD outbreak. The 140 have also taken part in the culling of 700-thousand heads of livestock in the area.
The long hours worked by the vets has resulted in some reporting exhaustion and an inability to work, which has increased the workload for those who remain.
The concurrent outbreak of bird flu has also increased their workload.
