SAN DIEGO -- A sailor assigned to the USS Dubuque in San Diego has a confirmed case of swine flu, bringing the total number of Navy cases to five, according to U.S. Navy officials.
Navy officials said 420 sailors are assigned to the USS Dubuque, and 50 other sailors assigned to the ship have reported flu-like symptoms. All 420 sailors are being treated with Tamiflu, Navy officials said.
The USS Dubuque was scheduled to deploy to the South Pacific on a humanitarian mission on June 1, but the trip has been canceled. The Navy is considering substituting another ship for the mission. Several junior sailors living on the ship were moved to quarters at Naval Station San Diego, officials said. The five cases confirmed by the U.S. Navy include:
