DEVELOPING: Indonesia's earthquake agency has issued a tsunami warning following a magnitude 7.5 earthquake. The tremor struck off the coast of southern Sumatra.
According to a bulletin issued by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, the warning is in effect for Indonesia only, not for the wider Indian Ocean region.
According to the bulletin, a local tsunami would only affect coasts less than 62 miles (100 kilometers) from the quake's epicenter, about 150 miles (240 km) from Padang, Sumatra, Indonesia.
The quake struck at a depth of 20.5 miles (33 km), classified as a shallow one by the USGS.
