MALDA, Dec. 18: A two-member team from the National Institute of Cholera and Enteric Diseases (NICED) today arrived in Malda and met district health officials. They also visited the Bird Flu affected villages. They discussed about precautionary measures to be adopted in case the disease spreads in humans.
Dr Jagbir Singh, director of National Institute of Cholera and Enteric Diseases, and joint director Dr Ramesh Agarwal, advised district health officials to take necessary measures after surveying the areas.
The chief medical officer of health Malda, Dr Srikanta Roy, said that the team was supervising programmes taken in the Bird Flu affected areas and had advised to step up surveillance. “The two-member team will report to the Centre about our performance taken in the Bird Flu affected areas,” Dr Roy said.
Meanwhile, routine health check for culling team members was hampered at the Norhatta GS High School camp office this morning due to an altercation between the ARD and health officials.
Trouble broke out when the health department doctors expressed unhappiness with a large number of outsiders in the camp while examining the health condition of the culling team members. The chief medical officer of health, Malda, Dr Srikanta Roy put it down to misunderstanding among government officials.
