SAO PAULO -(Dow Jones)- Brazil's Health Ministry reported 55 new cases of the A/H1N1 influenza virus Tuesday, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 680.
A male truck driver returning from a trip to Argentina was the first Brazilian to die of the so-called "swine flu" disease over the weekend.
The Health Ministry said in a press release that the majority of the 680 patients are recovering.
The A/H1N1 flu kicked off an unwelcome international tour de force in April from Mexico and has become a global pandemic, spreading to 35 countries so far, according to the World Health Organization.
