قال قائد القيادة المركزية الأمريكية الجنرال ديفيد بتريوس، إن الولايات المتحدة تعتبر مصر منذ فترة طويلة شريكاً استراتيجياً مهماً، مشيرا إلى أنه زار مصر عدة مرات عندما كان ضابطاً صغيراً بالقوات المسلحة الأمريكية.

The commander of U.S. Central Command, General David Petraeus, the United States is Egypt, long ago an important strategic partner, pointing out that he visited Egypt several times when he was a small armed forces officers of America.

وأكد بتريوس، عقب استقبال الرئيس حسنى مبارك له اليوم الاثنين بمقر رئاسة الجمهورية بحى مصر الجديدة بالقاهرة، أن جميع أفراد القوات المسلحة الأمريكية يقدرون التعاون العسكرى القوى بين البلدين، وكذلك يقدرون برامج التعاون العسكرى العديدة بين الولايات المتحدة ومصر.

The Petraeus, following a meeting with President Hosni Mubarak on Monday at the presidential headquarters in Cairo district of Heliopolis, that all members of the armed forces of America appreciate the cooperation of military forces between the two countries, as well as appreciate the many military cooperation programs between the United States and Egypt.

ونوه بتريوس إلى أنه أجرى مباحثات مع الرئيس مبارك استغرقت نحو الساعة ونصف الساعة تناولت مجموعة عريضة من القضايا ذات الاهتمام المشترك بين البلدين، ووصف هذه المباحثات بأنها "بناءة ومهمة"، وتركزت على القضايا الأمنية الإقليمية الراهنة بما فيها الأوضاع فى العراق وأفغانستان وباكستان وإيران، وسبل مواجهة القرصنة وتهريب الأسلحة للمنظمات المتطرفة التى تتخذ العنف منهاجاً لها.

Petraeus noted that he had talks with President Mubarak took about an hour and a half hours, covered a wide range of issues of common interest between the two countries and described the talks as "constructive and important", and focused on regional security issues including the current situation in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iran, and ways to the face of piracy and the smuggling of weapons to extremist organizations, which is a platform with violence.

وقال بتريوس إن زيارته لمصر أتاحت له الفرصة لتقديم الشكر والتقدير للرئيس حسنى مبارك للحفاوة وحسن الضيافة والاستقبال الذى لقيه الرئيس الأمريكى باراك أوباما خلال زيارته التاريخية لمصر، مؤكدا أن كل الأمريكيين يشعرون بالفخر إزاء ردود الفعل الإيجابية التى لاقاها خطاب الرئيس الأمريكى بجامعة القاهرة فى الرابع من يونيو الماضى من جانب دول المنطقة.

Petraeus said that his visit to Egypt provided an opportunity to give thanks and appreciation to President Hosni Mubarak for the warm welcome and hospitality and the reception it has received U.S. president Barack Obama during his historic visit to Egypt, saying that all Americans feel proud of the positive reactions, which recalls a speech by U.S. President, University of Cairo, the Fourth of June last of the countries in the region.
