Vietnam has been struck by the foot-and-mouth disease again. It has emerged in two provinces, affecting hundreds of cattle and pigs. The disease was detected in nine villages of Luc Yen district in the northern mountainous province of Yen Bai and in Son Tinh district in the central province of Quang Ngai. Earlier, local authorities launched a vaccination program to protect livestock, but due to insufficient volume of vaccine doses, a large number of animals were not immunized. Meanwhile, bird flu was reported to afflict poultry in Quang Ngai province.
