Avian influenza virus was detected at a farm in a kibbutz in northern Israel, AFP reported.
The virus was discovered in poultry on a farm in kubbutzul Ein Shemer, near Hadera, south of Haifa, said Moshe Haimowitch, veterinary officer at the Ministry of Health, quoted by Israeli Army radio.
Health authorities in Israel have isolated poultry farm within a radius of three kilometers, and the slaughter of 43,000 birds and carrying out systematic analysis to avoid any risk of disease outbreaks.
The European Union has banned imports of live poultry, poultry meat and eggs from Israel, since March 2006. Nearly 1.4 million birds were slaughtered when in Israel.
