Mexico, 14 Nov. (Notimex) .- The United Nations Organization (UNO) announced that Mexico will host the International Meeting on Health Risks in the human-animal interface and ecosystems.
The multilateral agency reported that in preparation for the ministerial meeting, the government of Mexico held from 15 to 17 November a High Level Technical Meeting in Mexico City.
At this meeting, about 100 experts will discuss the issues of zoonotic influenza, rabies and antimicrobial resistance as entry points to discuss cross-cutting aspects of the assessment and mitigation of threats of animal origin, the UN said.He said that the results of this meeting will define the agenda of the next ministerial meeting, where governments around the world seek political support and financial commitments that promote national policies and solutions for the detection, prevention and control of these diseases.
In a statement, the Organization of the United Nations recalled that most emerging and reemerging diseases in humans originate from animals.
"The experience left H5N1 avian influenza, Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) and rage shown that the next epidemic or pandemic is likely to emerge from the interaction between animals, humans and ecosystems," he said.
He noted that although it is difficult to predict what new diseases will sprout in the coming years, "we must be prepared for the unexpected," so sharing knowledge and precautions will be vital to reduce the threats to global health and disease hazards can generate infectious.
The UN recalled that the International Ministerial Conference on Avian and Pandemic Influenza 2010 in Hanoi, Vietnam, the Mexican government emphasized his experience during the fight against H1N1 pandemic influenza, and proposed a government meeting on health risks at the human interface -animal and ecosystem.
