Restricted Export of Agricultural Products, U.S. Report India to WTO

Skalanews - Restrictions by India against imports of U.S. agricultural products, making Uncle Sam the government's approach to the World Trade Organization (WTO), to its resistance to the action of India.
As reported by International Business Times, Saturday (12/5), the U.S. government has asked the WTO to establish a panel (jury) to make the settlement of this dispute. They assume that the import restriction is a violation of the obligations set by the WTO.
While the government of India stated that the import restrictions were intended as a precautionary measure the spread of bird flu. India say they have the right to impose restrictions on imports from countries infected with bird flu outbreaks.
"India has undertaken actions that are inconsistent with their obligations, under WTO agreements. Concerned about animal health, clearly an act to disguise trade restrictions, and it can not be justified," said U.S. Trade Representative, Ron Kirk.
The U.S. stated that they have implemented high standards in the agricultural industry, they believe that the WTO would agree that there is no justification to restrict U.S. exports to India.
Trade bodies such as The National Chicken Council, National Turkey Federation and USA Poultry and Egg Export Council welcomes the steps the U.S. government to approach the WTO on this issue.
The U.S. government has been trying for formal consultations with India on March 7, and on 16 and 17 April 2012, but failed to resolve the issue.

It is not true that US agricultural products are superior. Much of it is mass engineered junk. I cannot eat 90% of the food at a typical grocery store without suffering symptoms of one form or another.
