Chan: Holds Bilateral Meeting w/Indian Health Minister: Discusses efforts for bilateral health co-op

"I supported the RI initiative to establish WHO Collaborating Centre Influenza in Indonesia, and will give help to bring about this initiative" Was like this it was stressed by World Health Organization Director General (WHO), Dr. Margaret Chan, in his meeting with RI Health Minister, Dr. Endang Rahayu Sedyaningsih in Session gaps Executive Board 126 WHO in Geneva, on January 18 2010.

The Director General's WHO support had the important meaning towards Indonesia so that developing countries also have the capacity that was adequate to diagnose and did risk assesment (the assessment of the risk) towards the potential illness the pandemic like Bird Flu (the Virus H5N1 and H1N1).

The director general WHO also supported the WHO Collaborating Centre formation for Disaster Management in Indonesia. At this time the Disaster Management Centre was formed and operated in 9 areas in Indonesia. The director general WHO praised the Indonesian capacity in the management of the disaster so as to be able to become the training centre for other countries. The bilateral meeting between Menkes RI with this WHO Director General was one of the series of the activity in the first day the Session 126 of Executive Board WHO that will take place and January 23 2010. Apart from the meeting with the Director General WHO, Menkes RI also held the bilateral meeting with Indian Health Minister and Bruneian Darussalam in order to discuss efforts to reinforce the bilateral health co-operation.

Executive Board/the executive's body WHO had a membership of 34 member countries, including Indonesia. Menkes RI succeeded in being chosen as one of the Vice Chairmen together with South Korea, Oman and Paraguay. The session of EB-WHO that was led by Uganda dimandatkan to compile the decision and the policy that were discussed and determined by World Health Assembly (WHA), as well as gave the directive to the WHO Director General in carrying out WHA decisions. In the Session 126 of EB-WHO this, apart from continuing to fight for continuation of the formation of Framework Virus Sharing and Benefits Sharing, Indonesia also took the initiative of putting forward the resolution plan concerning the Improvement of Health through Safe and Environmentally Sound Waste Management. This submission of the resolution plan was Indonesian efforts to follow up the decision Balinese Declaration ounce Waste Management for Human Health and Livelihood that was agreed to in the 9th Session of COP to the Basel Convention in Bali, in June 2008. 2008.
