Nepal confirms outbreak of bird flu #H5N1 #BIRDFLU

Kathmandu - Authorities in Nepal were preparing Sunday to cull hundreds of poultry after the government confirmed the outbreak of bird flu in the eastern region of the country.
A laboratory test on a sample from a dead chicken had confirmed avian influenza in the districts of Sunsari and Ilam, the director of the Natio
nal Animal Health Directorate, Ram Krishna Khatiwada, said.

Bird flu confirmed in Sunsari
ITAHARI, Feb 5:
 The government authorities on Sunday confirmed outbreak of bird flu in Khanar and Itahari of Sunsari, where 6,500 chickens had died at PK Poultry Farm of Bajraha, Itahari-6 and Pathibhara Poultry Farm of Khanar earlier this week.

After chickens started dying, a team led by Ganesh Raj Panta, Senior Vetenary Doctor at Animal Health Directorate, Kathmandu, had monitored the poultry farms.

After confirming bird flu, an official of the district animal heath office, Sunsari, has been called in to contain the possible spread of the virus.
