..dumped everywhere near these farms. This is a long story and hard to decipher with lots of pics. People dumping dead birds in the river, ducks walking near dead bird areas, lime everywhere, people indifferent, smuggling everywhere..you get the picture..

The Health Ministry said Vietnam has recently reported the first patient infected with influenza A/H3N2 swine influenza A/H5N1 but is now spreading from poultry and aquatic birds to humans is the most frightening and fear. The government authorities have confirmed that a highly infectious and fatal viral disease of poultry named ‘ranikhet’ is the cause behind the recent deaths of thousands of chickens in Dhading district.
According to Dr Nara Bahadur Rajawar, the director general at the Department of Livestock Services, the lab tests of the dead fowls show symptoms of ranikhet disease. Local poultry farmers at Naubise VDC in Dhading claimed that over 20,000 chickens died in various poultry farms in the area for the past two weeks. District Veterinary Office (DVO) Dhading, however, confirmed 10,000 deaths so far. The DVO sent samples from two poultry farms to the Central Veterinary Laboratory in Kathmandu for tests on Thursday.
Some 3,500 out of 5,600 chickens in Ram-Laxman Poultry Farm died, while Salikram Adhikari’s farm in Dharke saw deaths of around 3,000 chickens in the past two weeks. According to Dr Shivaji Prasad Das, chief at the DVO, the number of deaths in local farms lately raised fear of avian influenza.
DVO data shows that there are 50 poultry farms in the district. The farmers claimed that recent deaths of over 20,000 chickens have resulted in loss of some Rs 5 million to local farmers.

Meanwhile, according to Karju, Ponimah husband, despite having received a doctor's care centers, physical condition she not also improve.
Because it concerned a decrease in endurance, she gave up when the team Cage Cattle Health Center Medical intensive care in hospitals recommend DR R Soedarsono.

At yesterday’s meeting to review the disease situation, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Cao Duc Phat, head of the committee, requested local authorities nationwide to take all possible measures to control, prevent and drive back the disease, with vaccination of poultry being the most important priority.
The minister asked the Ministry of Finance to facilitate the import of 50 million of doses of H5N1-Re 5 vaccine as soon as possible.
He also requested the 7 epidemic inspection teams set up several days ago to step up their mission in 48 provinces and cities and give necessary support to the 11 affected localities. These are Thanh Hoa, Quang Tri, Ha Nam, Ha Tinh, Quang Nam, Hai Duong, Hai Phong, Thai Nguyen, Bac Giang, Soc Trang and Kien Giang,
Acting head of the Ministry of Health’s Veterinary Department Hoang Van Nam warned that the avian flu virus had continuously evolved since 2003 and become more dangerous.
From 2003 to 2011, 121 people were affected by bird flu and 61 of them, or about 50%, died. In January 2012, 2 people were found to contract the H5N1 virus and both died, he said.
From 2003 to 2007, the H5N1 clade 1 virus prevailed in Vietnam, but since 2007, sub-clade 2.3.4 had appeared and existed until 2009, when sub-clade 2.3.2 was found. This sub-clade has later developed into two groups A and B.
Of the 2 groups, the former is three times more dangerous than the latter and has been found in almost all of the affected provinces and cities, while the latter has appeared in only 8 localities so far.
In the past several years, the H5N1-Re 5 vaccine was used to vaccinate poultry in the country, but since the appearance of sub-clade 2.3.2, the vaccine has been found to be not strong enough, Nam said.
China, which has also been affected by sub-clade 2.3.2, has studied a new specific vaccine, H5N1-Re 6, but the Chinese authorities have yet to allow the production of the vaccine.

District administration and livestock officials culled 21,885 bird flue affected parent stock of fowl and 6,227 eggs of Green Valley Agro Complex at Andharmanik in the town on Tuesday night.
"After I informed the district livestock officials on Monday, they visited the firm on Tuesday morning and took samples of parent stock to the Field Diseases Investigation Lab (FDIL) in Manikganj for examination," said Dr Raja Pramanik, deputy general manager of the agro complex.
As FDIL officials found bird flue germ in the parent stock, Director (Health and Administration) of Livestock Directorate Dr Mosaddek Hossain asked the local administration and district livestock office to cull the bird flue affected parent stock and eggs, said District Livestock Officer (DLO) Dr Mrinal Kumar Nath.
Dr Mosaddek also directed banning all activities of the firm for the next three months, Dr Mrinal said.
Executive Magistrate Nargis Parvin, Dr Mrinal Kumar Nath, proprietor and Managing Director of the agro complex Sakhawat Hossain and Deputy General Manager Dr Raja Pramanik were present during the culling.
Proprietor the agro complex Sakhawat Hossain said they suffered an estimated loss of Tk 5 crore.

Experts say greater vigilance and prompt action are needed to prevent the virus from spreading to epidemic proportions
Live chicken and ducks sold illegally on Truong Dai Bridge in Ho Chi Minh City’s Go Vap District. Experts have urged better vigilance among fowl farmers and traders to avoid bird flu outbreaks.

She has never had the fowls vaccinated against bird flu, except once several years ago when local authorities offered free vaccinations for chickens and ducks following an epidemic of the H5N1 virus.
“It’s only a couple of chickens. Many others who breed small number of chickens at their house also don’t have them vaccinated,” said the retired midwife in Long An Province’s Chau Thanh District.
Just before the Tet (January 23) festival, she gave her relative in Ho Chi Minh City two chicken who brought them back alive although it is illegal to transport live fowl into the city. The chickens were later slaughtered for a meal as an offering to deceased ancestors – a traditional ritual conducted on the third day of the lunar year.
The rearing, consuming and gifting of chicken is common practice. This has prompted experts to warn of low awareness of the dangers posed by bird flu that claimed two lives last month - an 18-year-old man in Kien Giang and 26-year-old woman in Soc Trang province.
“Many farmers have ignored the crucial preventive measure of vaccination and often panicked once bird flu spreads,” said Nguyen Xuan Binh, director of the Animal Health Agency No. 6 (The agency monitors animal health issues in HCMC and the provinces of Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan, Dong Nai, Binh Phuoc, Binh Duong, Ba Ria-Vung Tau, Long An, Tien Giang, Ben Tre and Tay Ninh).

After learning that the vaccine is only sold at the provincial animal health department that is far away, they just ignore the vaccination,” he said, adding that the vaccine should be sold through private vet medicine shops for better prevention against the disease.
He said that during the spread of bird flu over the past years, many farmers refused to hand the animals to local animal health authorities for culling just because of some delay.
“The government has supported farmers who have culled diseased chickens. The support per chicken is sometimes higher than the market price but the farmers still sold their fowls for quick money,” he said.
Risky trade
Meanwhile, the illegal trade of live chickens and ducks in HCMC thrives, posing a greater risk of the spread of the H5N1 virus.
A quick tour around the city found live chickens and ducks being sold at many places, including Le Duc Tho, Ben Xom Cui, Pham Hung and Pham The Hien streets in Go Vap District and District 8.
Phan Xuan Thao, director of the HCMC Animal Health Agency, said the city has formed a mobile task force including the traffic police, market watchdogs, animal health agency and youth volunteers to act against illegal fowl trading on the streets.
“However, local authorities should monitor those places more closely because they often resume trading of live fowls soon after we leave,” he said.
With just four stations at entry points into the city, Thao said they can only inspect the transport of big consignments of fowl. It is difficult to monitor small loads, he said.
Bird flu first hit Vietnam in 2003 and it has killed and led to the forced culling of millions of fowls in Vietnam. A total of 119 human cases had been confirmed as of March 2011, including 59 fatalities.
On February 5, the Department of Animal Health confirmed a recurrence of bird flu in the Mekong Delta province of Soc Trang after 90 chickens in My Xuyen District’s Ngoc Dong Commune died and tested positive for the disease.
Soc Trang was the third province, after Thanh Hoa and Quang Tri in the north-central region, to report the recurrence of bird flu this year.
Virulent virus
Experts have stressed the need for multiple preventive measures because even vaccinated fowl may contract the virus.
“Poultry producers and the general public should always take simple precautions to reduce exposure to the virus from infected poultry,” the World Health Organization (WHO) said in a statement.
“These include extra vigilance in cases of sudden disease and death in poultry, rapid reporting of disease to the authorities and good hygiene practices while handling, slaughtering and preparing poultry for consumption,” the statement said.
There is no evidence to suggest yet that this new strain of the virus, spotted in August last year, carries any increased risk to human health, it added. EDIT: BULLSHIT
The antigenic variant that still belongs to clade 2.3.2.1 genetically, was first detected in Vietnam in January 2011, and had been confirmed only in two northern provinces by July 2011.
“A vaccine is required for protection of poultry against the antigenic variant detected within the clade 2.3.2.1. The work on this has already started in leading laboratories. Fortunately this 'variant' virus within the new clade 2.3.2.1 is having limited geographical circulation among poultry at the moment,” the statement said. EDIT: BULLSHIT
Santanu Bandyopadhyay, senior technical coordinator at FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization) Vietnam, said the high pathogenic avian influenza virus circulating in Vietnam since 2003/04 is already very virulent for poultry.
“There are some viruses within this new 2.3.2.1 (strain) in Vietnam from which poultry could not be protected at all by the current vaccine. Just remember that this new clade including the non-protectable 'rogue' viruses are in the north only so far,” he said.
“The current vaccine is able to protect poultry against the majority of the viruses in the new clade 2.3.2.1 and also the existing clade 1, if properly vaccinated,” he said, adding that the new vaccine for poultry may take between 6 months to 2 years to develop with all safety and protection parameters completed as per international protocol.

BHADRAPUR: Bird flu or avian influenza A (H5N1) has been confirmed in chickens in poultry farms in three different locations of Jhapa district.
The confirmation was made by the Central Animal Disease Research Laboratory, Kathmandu after it tested samples of dead fowls from the three farms collected some time ago, according to Chief of District Livestock Services Office, Jhapa, Dr Radheshyam Mandal.
The samples had been collected from the house of Nijam Miyan and Kansar Miyan in Pathamari-1, the house of Gopal Prasad Oli in Arjundhara-7 and from the farm run by Devendra Kumar Shrestha in Charpane-3.
Meanwhile, the District Bird flu Control Technical Committee today decided to declare those areas as 'crisis zone'.

Nepal-Bird Flu confirmed in Sunsari; Ilam, Panchthat hit #H5N1 #BIRDFLU

SUNSARI, FEB 05 - While government authorities on Sunday confirmed the H5N1 strain of bird flu in Khanar and Itahari in Sunsari district, similar outbreaks were reported in Phakphok in Ilam district and Faktep in Panchthar, where more than 400 chickens have died.
However, fowls in the affected areas are yet to be slaughtered, increasing the risk of the infection spreading to other localities.
The Directorate of National Animal Health (DNAH) had suspected bird flu after around 7,000 chickens died in Pathibhara Poultry Firm at Khanar-4 and PK Poultry Suppliers at Itahari-6. As of Sunday evening, more than 8,000 fowls have died in the two poultry farms.
"We have not been able to slaughter the fowls as we have not been able to check the health of personnel who are to slaughter the fowls, while there is a lack of tami flu (the drug to treat the flu) and sending safety gears to the team has been delayed," Dr Bol Raj Acharya, the Eastern Regional Veterinary Health Director, said.
Dr Shreeram Prasad Shah, the chief of the District Public Health Office, Sunsari, said the date of tami flu stored in the area has already expired. The medicines sent by the centre, however, arrived late on Sunday evening.
The district veterinary office has directed authorities concerned to increase surveillance in all poultry farms in the area.
In Ilam and Panchthar, authorities have declared an area of 3 km around the two sites as infected zone.
A team led by doctors has been deployed at the site in Ilam. The team will kill fowls in the nearby areas and take up other preventive measures. Around 200 households live in the outbreak area.
"We have deployed security personnel to stop the import and export of chickens and poultry products," said DSP Bishnu KC said.
In Kathmandu, Secreatry of the Ministry of Health and Population Dr Praveen Mishra said, "People need not panic. We are prepared to handle the situation."
General symptoms of the flu are fever above 100.4 F, cough, sore throat, muscle ache and difficulty in breathing.
Bird Flu, also known as Avian influenza, is an infection caused by the avian (bird) influenza (flu) A viruses. The influenza A viruses occur naturally among birds.
