TAFILEH — A medical team tasked with investigating the cause of the viral conjunctivitis outbreak in Tafileh last week established that students were infected with the disease after swimming in a pool in the Afra Hot Springs.

Tafileh Health Director Ghazi Marayat said no new infections had been reported. Last week, 170 cases of viral conjunctivitis were registered in Tafileh, including 100 students and three teachers.
Meanwhile, Tafileh Tourism Director Khaled Wohoush said the hot springs were still open to visitors and that the site was cleaned daily, indicating that around 6,000 tourists visited the site last week and the disease was not detected in any visitor or worker.
He added that one pool suspected of being contaminated was closed pending further tests.
