I think that a different biosafety level could be created for transmissible novel influenza, because of the urgency to accomplish rapid research. The researchers should be sequestered in continuous quarantine as opposed to going home to kiss a spouse at the end of the day. But to avoid encumbering and slowing the researchers, use BSL-3 barrier equipment and procedures. That would address a lot of issues, wouldn't it?
