Bird flu boy in serious condition

03-06-2012
The Centre for Health Protection has said a two-year-old boy infected with the H5N1 bird flu virus is now in serious condition in hospital. However, the Health Secretary, York Chow, has described the case as an isolated incident, and urged the public not to panic.
Dr Chow said the boy was a Hong Kong ID card holder who lived with his parents in Guangzhou. He said he had been to poultry markets in the city - but experts could not be sure where he had caught the virus. Dr Chow said a renewed ban on live poultry ban from the mainland was unlikely, although officials would remain vigilant
