Nepal: 200 birds culled in Deurali, another 3000 to go

PARASI: A Rapid Response Team (RRT) has culled more than 200 domestic birds in the bird flu affected Jhyalbas area of Deurali VDC-6 till Friday. The district livestock office had started culling the birds in the area after bird flu was confirmed in the area some days ago. Bird flu was detected in the dead chicken of Bal Bahadur Bagwal's house for the first time. The office started culling the birds 500 metres around Bagwal's house.

Parshuram Bhushal, veterinary doctor, Western Regional Life Stock Disease Research Laboratory, informed that the RRTs have been destroying the birds, bird related products and the instruments used in the poultry. According to the data of the VDC, there are around 2 thousands domestic birds in the area. However Dr. Bhushal said that there may be more than 3000 birds in the affected area. He also informed that the office has started prevention work after establishing bird flu prevention units in the area.

He added,'' It might take more than a week to cull all the birds in the affected area.''

CDO Balkrishna Panthi informed that the administration was planning to test bird flu in the adjoining areas also to prevent the possible spread of the disease. Chief of DPHO Dr. R.S. Deep informed that two medical teams have been sent to the affected area to prevent possible transmission of the disease in the human beings.
