SWITZERLAND - More than 1,000 pigs in the
canton of Lucerne will face slaughter after being diagnosed with a respiratory
disease that can lead to pneumonia.
Twenty-one farms in the canton of Lucerne have been so far
affected, reports World Radio Switzerland.
There is no risk of meat contamination or the disease being transferred to humans.
Nevertheless 200 pigs have already been slaughtered.
In other countries this disease is treated with antibiotics but according to the Pig Rearing Health Authority, this is not the case in Switzerland. http://www.thepigsite.com/swinenews/28372/pneumonia-causes-slaughter-of-1000-pigs
