Livestock officials began disinfecting areas frequented by large number of migratory birds as a precaution against bird flu recurrence.

Disinfecting of areas where there are large number of migratory birds by livestock authorities in the northern province of Phitsanulok has raised bird flu scare among the locals. .

At least two districts of the provinces, namely Bang Krathum and Phrom Phiram, were areas where the recurrence of bird flue epidemics were reported in 2007. And despite no report of repeated epidemics in these areas throughout last year, there were occastional reports of mass poultry deaths.

Along with spraying disinfectant in the suspected areas, the Phitsanulok livestock authorities also conducted a precautionary test for the bird flu virus in several areas in a bid to ensure that the virus infection did not occur and go unchecked.

Meanwhile in Uttaradit province, livestock authorities began intensive checks on the hygienic standards of the slaughter houses prior to the Chinese New Year festival when a large number of poultry was usually slaughtered.
