Malaysia issues flu travel advisory

KUALA LUMPUR, May 12 - The Foreign Ministry today issued a caution with regard to Influenza A (H1N1) to all Malaysians travelling to the United States, Mexico, Canada, Spain and Britain.

Stating that 96.8 per cent of the reported cases of Influenza A (H1N1) were in these five countries, it urged Malaysians to defer travelling to places where the virus had hit the hardest, such as Illinois, Wisconsin and California in the United States.

For unavoidable overseas travel, Malaysians should consult their physicians to take the seasonal flu vaccination, it said.

The travel advisory also outlined the need to obtain the latest information if there was any outbreak or new cases of the flu at their destinations.

It also advised to avoid contact with those who were ill and said those suspected to have the flu were required to avoid close contact with others as much as possible and stay home or in hotel rooms and to immediately contact the local health authority. - Bernama
