INARUWA, FEB 15 - Authorities in Sunsari district have confirmed bird flu in
chickens at a Muslim settlement in Narsingh VDC-8.
The Eastern Regional Animal Health Director, Dr Bolraj Acharya, said tests
conducted at the Central Veterinary Laboratory in the Capital have confirmed the
outbreak of the flu.
After people in Narsingh reported sudden death of their fowls, the District
Veterinary Office had collected samples of the dead birds for lab tests.
Chief District Officer Maninarayan Chaudhary said a rapid response team will
be mobilised in the VDC to slaughter chickens and stop the spread of the virus.
Bird flu outbreak has already been confirmed in two poultry farms in Itahari
and Khanar in the district.
Earlier, the bird flu virus was found in the chickens at PK poultry and
suppliers at Bajraha, Ithari, 6 and Pathivara poultry farm in Khanar-4 in
Sunsari district.
