VERMILION — Hilary Mankin found her calling in high school. She wanted to be an actress on the big screen.
She didn’t quite get the drama club parts she wanted, but she invested herself in the dramatic arts after becoming a student at Bowling Green State University.
The 20-year-old Vermilion woman was found dead in her Bowling Green apartment Wednesday from what is believed to be a sudden illness. The cause of death remains unknown, but her mother, Mitzi Mankin, said it appeared she had the flu.
Her daughter had just finished the school year at BGSU and moved to an apartment for the summer. She’d returned home on May 10 and by Saturday she felt a little nauseated. When Mitzi Mankin took her daughter back to her apartment on Monday, she had a low-grade fever. On Tuesday, Mankin went to campus health center and was told it was likely a case of the flu going around. On Wednesday, she was found dead.
“Her roommates found her dead in her room,” Mitzi Mankin said. “It was just the flu, a 20-year-old doesn’t die from the flu.”
