With acute diarrhea caused by cholera still spreading in Loc Ha, Thach Ha, and Ky Anh Districts and Ha Tinh town, and medical workers struggling with it, a dengue fever outbreak has begun.

Forty five people in Nghi Xuan District were rushed to hospital with fever, vomiting, and rashes on their bodies. Of them, 27 tested positive for dengue, Dr. Trinh Khac Hue, director of the district’s Preventive Medicine Department, said.

Clinics in Xuan Hong and Xuan Thanh communes have been supplied more with 70 IV bottles and 500 boxes of various drugs.

Ha Tinh has reported 20 cases of acute diarrhea, including four people with cholera. Of greater worry is the fact that the deadly disease appears to be spreading to Ky Anh and Ha Tinh town.

Following the detection of cholera cases in the province, the Central Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology carried out tests and found the virulent vibrio cholera virus present in a well in Thach Ha District, which has the largest number of patients.

The Thach Ha medical center has decided to close down roadside eateries to conduct hygiene tests.
