19 More Cases of Low-Path Bird Flu in Germany

GERMANY - The veterinary authorities have reported a further 19 cases of low-pathogenic avian influenza (LPAI) to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

The latest follow-up report, dated 20 December, describes a further 19 cases of LPAI, all in the same area as before &ndash Cloppenburg in Lower Saxony.

In total, 242,568 birds (type unspecified) were involved. Of these, 330 showed signs of disease, 35 died and 242,328 birds were destroyed.

The H5N3 viral sub-type has been confirmed.
