India: No New Bird Flu Cases Reported OVER ONE CRORE RUPEE COMPENSATION PAID TO POULTRY FARMERS

There is no further report from the High Security Animal Disease Laboratory (HSADL), Bhopal of any sample testing positive in any part of the country, including Assam and West Bengal.

There is no further report of unusual mortality of poultry in any part of the country, including Assam and West Bengal.

A total of 129 Rapid Response Teams (RRTs) were engaged in Assam on 18th December, 2008, which completed culling of 10,363 birds. The cumulative figure of culling of birds so far in Assam is 3.91 lakh. On 18.12.2008, a total of 30 RRTs were deployed for culling operation in Malda district, West Bengal, which completed culling of 16,963 birds.

Out of 12 epicenters of infection in Assam, culling has been completed in 8 of them. An amount of Rs.1.24 crore (approx.) has been paid as compensation up to 18.12.2008 in Assam so far.

The culling at both the epicenters in West Bengal would be completed by 20th December, 2008 and the completion of sanitization is targetted for 25.12.2008. An amount of Rs. 4.99 lakh (approx.) has been paid as compensation up to 18.12.2008 in West Bengal so far.
