Nepal: bird flu registered in Pokhara

As the representative of the Ministry of Agriculture, tests made in a London laboratory, confirmed the suspected presence of avian influenza H5N1 in Pokhara.

The need to conduct tests came after the farm of a local Poultrymen 100 dead chickens and 38 ducks. Currently taking all possible measures to prevent the further spread of the virus. Also created a special committee, which monitors implementation of all necessary procedures.

About 10 thousand heads of birds may go to slaughter to prevent contamination of other areas. The government hopes to resolve the problem within a week.
