Two dozen schools near bird flu hit area shut down

KATHMANDU, Dec 1: The Private and Boarding Schools Organization of Nepal (PABSON), on Thursday has called for closure of the schools that lie close to bird flu outbreak area in Bhaktapur.

PABSON Bhaktapur says that about two dozen schools near the flu affected area will remain closed until Monday starting Friday.

Marigold Secondary School, Millennium Secondary School, Om Gyan Mandir, Tri Star, Erudite Secondary School, Child Nature, Sagarmatha Secondary Schol, Dibya Deep are located nearby the poultry farm from where the disease is said to have spread. The decision of PABSON comes under the pressure from parents association.

According to Bhuwan Shrestha, President of Bhaktapur PABSON, parents, wary of the possibility of their children getting infected by the flu, demanded that the schools be closed for few days.

He said some children from the affected area have been sent for examination of possible infection and they are awaiting report.
“If they don´t test positive, schools will resume from Tuesday,” he added.

The government has claimed that it has applied all precautionary measures to curb the spread of the disease.
