Kien Giang’s teenager died of A/H5N1 influenza #H5N1 #BIRDFLU

VietNamNet Bridge - A 15-year-old boy from the southern province of Kien Giang, who tended ducks in Can Tho City, died of H5N1 flu after having temperature and treating himself with medicine.

One week ago, the patient named Danh Ni had cough and high temperature. His disease even got worse after he took some medicine. Ni later decided to go home but continued to cough persistently and was hospitalized with breathing difficulties.
Medical staff took a sample from him and sent it to the HCM City Pasteur Institute. The next day, Ni died when the results of testing the disease sample confirmed Ni was positive for H5N1. Ni became the first fatality because of the avian flu A/H5N1 this year.

Le Hoang Anh, Director of the Kien Giang Health Department, held that the patient had caught H5N1 virus from the duck camp where he worked previously.

The Kien Giang preventive medical centre has sprayed chemicals to disinfect the region around the patient’s house and monitored the areas where Danh Ni had stayed.

Blood samples have been also taken from those contacting the patient, including his relatives and medical workers.http://english.vietnamnet.vn/en/society/17948/kien-giang-s-teenager-died-of-a-h5n1-influenza.html
