Meningitis rumor causes panic Municipality inspects quality of foodstuffs

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 13: Rumors circulating about a female teacher contracting meningitis has caused panic among the residents of Jahra, reports Al-Dar daily.
However, the Director of Jahra Health Region Dr Adel Al-Osfour strongly refuted the rumor, stressing that the hospital hasn’t diagnosed or admitted any female teacher suffering from meningitis.
In a related development, the Director of Al-Sabah Hospital Dr Abbas Ramadan announces that two Kuwaitis, 7 and 67 years old respectively, have contracted meningitis. He added that the hospital’s administration has taken preventive measures and vaccinated those coming into direct contact with the patients, including doctors and nurses taking care of them.

The Ministry of Health affirms that the two suspected cases have been reported two days ago, and one of them is still under investigation, the daily noted.

Meanwhile, municipal teams are conducting surprise inspections in supermarkets and stores across the country to check the quality of foodstuffs being sold, Director of Kuwait Municipality Ahmad Al-Sabih told Al-Jarida daily.
He said the aim is to see whether the items are fit for human consumption and whether they fulfill the required conditions. “Action will be taken against owners of outlets which violate the rules as the issue affects the health and safety of consumers,” added Al-Sabih.

Head of Ahmadi municipal branch Fahd Daghim Al-Otaibi said the campaigns are aimed at safeguarding the health and safety of people and reassuring everyone.
