Just last Sunday, the Island Hospital in Bern has received 115 visits to young patients, record number of consultations in a day. The hotel was forced to hire a doctor and two health care aides. The emergency team is currently pediatric many extra hours, said Tuesday the Hospital of the island.

At the Children's Hospital in Basel, emergencies also operate at full capacity since the holidays. Some 120 cases of influenza are day and night nursing staff, which had to be strengthened, said a spokeswoman.

In Lausanne, the services of the CHUV see again an increase consultations due in part to the epidemic of influenza. "The Children's Hospital had a weekend charge, without having to hire additional staff," said the spokesman Darcy Christen.

In Geneva, the HUG emergencies are also faced with an overload of work since late December. Some days, doctors have received about 200 visits instead of the usual 100 to 120, according to the spokesman. The flu and cold weather early this year are the cause.

According to the score of the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) last Wednesday, the epidemic is still expanding its peak and has apparently not yet been reached. FOPH reported 369 suspected flu to 100 000 inhabitants, while the epidemiological threshold is about 48 100 000. The virus is widespread in all regions of Switzerland.
