VietNamNet Bridge - The provinces of Nghe An and Quang Ngai are the latest to join the list of provinces infected with foot-and-mouth disease, according to the Animal Health Department, under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development on February 23. In central Quang Ngai province, on February 19-22, the disease was detected in 19 cows from 8 households in the 2 communes of Son Dung and Son Tan, in Son Tay district. The Quang Ngai provincial Animal Health Department has worked with the authorities in Son Tay district to cull 10 cows infected with the disease in Son Dung commune, and another 9 cows in Son Tan commune. In central Nghe An province, between February 8-18, 50 cows in the districts of Con Cuong and Quy Chau also tested positive for foot-and-mouth disease. Currently, in the country, 9 provinces have been dealing with outbreaks of foot-and-mouth disease for less than 3 weeks, including Kon Tum, Hoa Binh, Quang Binh, Bac Kan, Quang Ninh, Quang Nam, Phu Tho, Nghe An and Quang Ngai. Bird flu outbreaks have also been confirmed in 10 provinces within 21 days, such as Ca Mau, Soc Trang, Nghe An, Hau Giang, Quang Ninh, Quang Tri, Bac Ninh, Bac Lieu, Khanh Hoa and Ninh Binh.
