Suspected bird flu outbreak in Assam

Rangiya (Assam), PTI:

As a preventive measure, more than 500 birds have been culled and a medical team rushed there to check if any human being was affected, sources said.

Sale of poultry has been banned and prohibitory orders imposed in the fear of suspected bird flu outbreak in Hajo of Kamrup (Rural) district in Assam.

As a preventive measure, more than 500 birds have been culled and a medical team rushed there to check if any human being was affected, sources said.

Blood samples of affected birds were sent for analysis to a specialised institute in Pune.

Official sources said, chickens and ducks from the area near Guwahati had shown symptoms of bird flu attack.

The symptoms of bird flu - listlessness and limpness of birds - noticed among poultry have prompted the administration to impose prohibitory orders under section 144 of CrPC.

However, prohibitory measures were not taken in neighbouring Kamrup (Metro) district where Guwahati is located. No report of poultry showing signs of bird-flu was reported from this place, sources added.
