The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has asked concerned ministries, sectors and localities to take strict measures in dealing with bird flu.

Agriculture Minister Cao Duc Phat, who is also head of the

National Steering Board for Bird Flu Prevention and Fighting, asked authorities to order and supervise the quarantining process, and control the transport and trade of poultry items.

They have to alert the public about eating fowl that have died of diseases and prevent the bird flu epidemic from recurring and spreading to humans, says the document that Phat signed Wednesday.

On the same day, the ministry also approved a project worth over VND120 billion (US$6.9 million) for using vaccines to control the flu epidemic from 2009-2010.
