May 16, 2009 - 08:23 -

WAM Abu Dhabi, May 16th, 2009 (WAM): The Ministry of Health said today that its technical committee on Swine flu has taken all the necessary measures after it was announced in New Delhi that an Indian citizen, who transited through Dubai Airport on his way from New York to Hyderabad, has been suffering from the symptoms of H1N1.

Dr Ali Ahmed bin Shukr, Director General of the ministry told Emirates News Agency (WAM) in a statement today that the traveller used Dubai airport as a transit point arriving from New York on 12th May before taking another flight on the same day to his home country.

He added that the ministry continues to communicate with the Indian authorities to follow up the health conditions of the passenger; while India's Ministry of Health said in a statement today that the government continues to monitor the health conditions of all the passengers who travelled on board the same plane before landing at the Hyderabad airport on 13th May midnight.

Bin Shukr said that a technical committee team stationed at the Dubai International Airport has the personal details about the passengers and others who head from the countries where cases of Swine flu have been reported.

The fact that any symptom of the disease has not appeared in any person, even after the elapse of four days after the above passenger transited trough Dubai, indicates that no other person has been affected by the virus.

Bin Shukr stressed the preparedness of the ministry and all other local health departments and machineries to face any attack of the virus. We are following up the situation continuously round the clock, but no case has been reported so far in the UAE, asserted Bin Shukr.
