ALTHOUGH Abia state has not recorded any occurrence of Avian Influenza, it on Thursday took pro-active steps to prevent it by inaugurating Local Governments area communication Desk Officers to educate its populace on the issue.

Earlier a state Public Enlightenment Committee comprising Journalists, Human Health and Animal Health professionals was set up with state Director of Information as Chairrman. -snip-

While the health component speaker, Dr Onyechere Nwokocha of the state Ministry of Health spoke on the human implications of the pandemic, that of the Animal Health Dr Onyejiuwa Kalu of the Veterinary Department of the ministry of Agriculture spoke on the Avian Influenza Overview, clinical signs, prevention and control even as the Chairman of the state enlightenment committee who also represented the permanent secretary, spoke on the communication perspective with Mr Eze Ajuzie, the Ministry's Desk Officer listing the duties of the area desk officers.
