The death of bird flu patients in Bengkulu last week making Indonesia the country with the highest number of H5N1 victims in the world, according to World Health Organization, WHO.
According to WHO, of the 349 deaths from bird flu worldwide since 2003, 155 of which occurred in Indonesia.
Health Ministry officials Rita Kusriastuti Wednesday (07/03) said that the 24-year-old female patient in Bengkulu, is a fifth victim of bird flu in Indonesia this year.
The two victims died earlier was a 12-year-old boy in Badung, Bali, and a 19-year-old woman in Banten.
Since 2003, there were 186 cases of human infection of bird flu in Indonesia and nearly 80 percent end in death.
The Government has yet to lift the Extraordinary conditions or outbreaks of bird flu for.
The virus is spread from birds to humans through direct contact, but experts fear the possible mutation of the virus that can spread from human to human.
Based on the WHO report released on the official website of the organization today, besides Indonesia case-to-human transmission of bird flu occurred in Bangladesh.
Ministry of Health and Family Welfare of Bangladesh said the three patients who all men is a trader at a bird market in Dhaka City.
All the victims survived after receiving treatment in hospital.
Meanwhile, Thailand reported 25 cases of bird flu between 2003-2006 and 17 fatalities.
