weeklyreport Week 7:

Excerpt:
CLINICAL LAB REPORTS OF RAPID FLU TESTING

During week 7 of 2012, twenty-six sentinel clinical laboratories reported that 52 (7.4%) of 706 rapid influenza tests performed were positive. Thirty-three were positive for type A, and 19 were positive for type B.

This proportion of positive tests is lower than the 3-year average for week 7, which is 14.4%.

While not as accurate as PCR tests, rapid influenza tests become more accurate as the flu season progresses and as influenza becomes more prevalent in the community, giving insight into the activity of influenza.
