The World Health Organization (WHO) started on March 3rd in Fukuoka Japan, an international conference to discuss novel influenza which causes fears of a worldwide pandemic.
WHO stated that once an outbreak was confirmed, it would try to determine and announce morbidity and mortality of the new virus by analyzing the first hundred cases.
WHO called for cooperation from participating countries.
The conference will continue until the 6th.
The conference is attended by 65 participants who are in charge of pandemic influenza preparedness plans in 14 countries mainly from the east Asia.
WHO presented the participants a counter-outbreak guideline which WHO had revised for the first time in four years at the end of last year.
The new guideline aims to quickly seieze and publicize pandemic influenza’s mortality and others, and also emphasizes that not only the governmental bodies but also the whole society from citizens to the media should fight against a pandemic together.
Dr. Takeshi Kasai, advisor for the WHO's Western Pacific Regional Office said:
“While each country already has a pandemic influenza action plan , it would be great if the plans are revised according to the latest knowledge.”
