Bac Lieu free of bird flu
-------------------------
Bac Lieu Province People's Committee has announced the end of an
avian flu outbreak that began more than a month ago [February 2009].
The Mekong Delta province's Animal Health Department manager Lam Tri
Thong said everything had returned to normal Saturday [4 Apr 2009].
The epidemic had been located mainly in Vinh Phu Dong Commune, Phuoc
Long District.

However, the province authorities have asked local agencies and
governments to keep a close watch on all farms and continue
vaccinating all flocks of ducks and other fowl in the area. More than
16 000 birds were put to death over the last month, according to the
department.

Soc Trang declared free of bird flu disease
-------------------------------------------
The People's Committee of the southern province of Soc Trang has
declared that the province has been free from bird flu epidemic.
Accordingly, poultry raising, transportation, slaughtering, and
consumption are now allowed to return to normal in the province.

The epidemic broke out in Soc Trang in early February 2009 and then
spread to the province's 4 districts with a total of more than 43 000
poultries being culled.

The province has taken urgent measures to stamp out the epidemic. As
a result, no outbreak has happened since [11 Mar 2009].

Update on avian influenza outbreaks as of 11 Apr 2009

As of today [11 Apr 2009], There are no new outbreaks reported.

Currently, Dien Bien province is the only province that has reported
HPAI within the last 21 days.

[From the 2 articles above, Viet Nam has declared 2 provinces (Bac
Lieu and Soc Trang) free of avian influenza. The last article from
the department of animal health in Viet Nam reports H5N1 in 1
province (Dien Bien) within the past 21 days.
