More rice and medicines for national storages

VietNamNet Bridge – Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has asked the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to buy an additional of 100,000 tonnes of rice and various types of animal vaccines and medicines for the national reserve.


The Ministry of Finance will spend VND880 billion ($51.76 million) to buy 100,000 tonnes of rice and nearly VND66 billion ($3.88 million) to buy veterinary medicines.

This year, Vietnam plans to export 4.5-5 million tonnes of rice. Many rice importers from the Philippines, Singapore and Africa have signed contracts with Vietnamese exporters.

It is expected that Philippines, the world’s largest rice importer, will buy 1.5 million tonnes of rice from Vietnam in 2009.
