Argentina reported 137 deaths from H1N1 influenza

BUENOS AIRES, July 14 (Reuters) - Argentina on Tuesday reported a total of 137 killed by new strain of influenza in the austral winter and became the second country in the world with the largest number of people killed by the epidemic.

The Ministry of Health reported 43 new deaths and a total of 3056 infected in the South American country.

Influenza H1N1 was detected in Mexico and United States in April. United States currently has the highest number of deaths, with 170 and Mexico is 119, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

The ministry's report noted that Chile, neighboring Argentina in the south, 25 deaths recorded by the new strain of influenza, popularly known as swine flu.
