BAREILLY: Indian officials have directed people in the border area here not to
import poultry from Nepal in the wake of recent bird flu outbreak, it is
learnt.
“Though there has been no case of bird flu in the region so far,
directives have been received from the authorities to take all necessary
precautions. The locals have also been asked not to hunt migratory birds,"
district veterinary officer Mohammed Ahmed said.
The Nepal government
last week had issued high alert against bird flu after receiving confirmed
reports of the avian influenza in dozens of chickens in Bhaktapur.
Scores of chickens were culled and dozens of eggs were destroyed after
the incident as precaution.
