Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Minister of Health Sedyaningsih Endang Rahayu said the bird flu virus in poultry is still there and can move to humans so that the community is expected to take prevention measures.

"The bird flu virus it is still endemic in poultry. Now and again jumped into humans, we do not know when," Menkes said when met after the Conference on Drinking Water and Sanitation Agency (KSAN) 2011 here on Tuesday.

To avoid transmission, a few simple steps urged by the Minister of Health, among others, so that people stay away from poultry, if not essential, always wash hands with soap and especially for the children not to play with dead chickens.

The number of victims of bird flu in Indonesia as revealed by Minister of Health, has always declined, from a dozen people in 2010 to "only" nine people in 2011.

"Compared with malaria or other infectious disease, bird flu death toll was little. The problem we are in a high death rate, about 70-80 percent," said Minister of Health.
